What is Content Area Literacy?
Content area literacy is the ability to use reading and writing strategies to build adolescents’ understanding in subject areas.

How can we make a difference in students’ literacy?
Some of our students are actively engaged in literacy activities and others can’t begin them. Teachers who create a culture that gives students voice through discussion and group learning activities can alleviate feelings of anger, anxiety, alienation, and powerlessness.

In our user-friendly texts: Guiding Reading and Writing in the Content Areas: Practical Strategies and Write More! Learn More! Writing across the Curriculum subject area pre-service, and practicing teachers as well as reading specialists, literacy coaches and consultants will learn how to construct and use literacy strategies that give students’ voice in developing their learning skills.

Comprehension, vocabulary, study skills, discussion, assessment and real world literacy strategies as well as literature actvities are designed for immediate use. Throughout these books are reproducible student worksheets, student examples across content areas and lesson plans for designing and delivering content for all students including students in special education as well as English language learners.
